Protecting the interests of Virgin Islands fishermen seems to be a never ending task. Most of the CFMC jurisdiction on shelf fisheries lies in St. Thomas so that management proposals always discriminate against our fisheries. Following the 2005 agreement with the CFMC to accept seasonal closures, and before the results of these actions had even been studied, NMFS is once again trying to push Virgin Islands fishermen towards extinction with more closures and quotas for each species.
